KOLEN supplies and installs Marrone Caramello natural stone for the iconic New Amsterdam Courthouse in the Zuidas.
KOLEN is proud of our contribution to the prestigious New Amsterdam Courthouse, located in the dynamic Zuidas. For this impressive project, designed by KAAN Architecten, we supplied and installed the high-quality Marrone Caramello natural stone. This carefully selected stone accentuates the dignified yet welcoming appearance of the courthouse, which symbolizes approachable authority and public debate.
The 50-meter-tall courthouse is distinguished by a large plaza at the front, offering an unobstructed view of the public spaces on the ground floor. Large windows create an open and transparent atmosphere, while visitors are welcomed into a central hall equipped with reception desks and a cafeteria. The upper floors, housing the courtrooms, are surrounded by spacious foyers that provide tranquility and a sense of overview.
A grand circular staircase connects the upper floors, where offices and courtrooms are located around green indoor and outdoor gardens. The Courthouse is horizontally divided into three main sections to facilitate the separation of its functions and ensure efficient circulation for employees, judges and visitors. As members of the public ascend from the entrance square, lawyers and judges descend from their chambers at the top of the building.
The design strategically places large openings in the lower floors, directly connecting to the public square. These openings become progressively smaller and more tailored as the spaces transition from public to private, accommodating the increasingly confidential nature of the work.
Our Marrone Caramello natural stone plays a crucial role in creating the elegant and aesthetic appearance of the courthouse. The choice of this stone contributes to the atmosphere of integrity and openness that the New Amsterdam Courthouse radiates. KOLEN is honoured to have been part of this project, enhancing the architecture and functionality of this important building.
